CREATED ONCE. NEVER REPEATED.
A Private Commission is a one-of-one Soundlocket® created for a particular person and purpose. It may begin with a voice, a family symbol, a significant stone or a moment that exists only once. Through a private creative process, these elements are translated into an original design developed exclusively for its commissioner. Each work is designed, made and documented in Finland. Once completed, its design will never be repeated.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
01 — CONVERSATION
Every commission begins privately. We take time to understand the person, the meaning of the piece and what the Soundlocket® is intended to preserve.
02 — CREATIVE DIRECTION
We explore materials, personal references, symbols and possible forms. From these conversations, a clear creative direction begins to emerge.
03 — DESIGN
An individual design is developed for the commissioner. Proportions, precious metals, gemstones, engraving and other details are considered as one composition before the design is approved.
04 — MAKING
The Soundlocket® is created in Finland through precision engineering, specialist craftsmanship and meticulous hand-finishing. Depending on the commission, the work may involve watchmaking, goldsmithing, stone-setting, engraving and other specialist techniques.
05 — DOCUMENTATION AND PRESENTATION
The completed work is inspected, individually numbered and documented. It is then presented to its owner together with its record of origin and the details of its creation.
MAKING
A Private Commission brings together Soundlocket®’s compact architecture of approximately one hundred components with the work of Finnish specialists. Each commission requires its own sequence of engineering, machining, fitting, finishing and testing. Precious-metal cases, individual engravings and gemstone settings are created specifically for the approved design. The completed Soundlocket® is assembled and individually finished by a watchmaker in Finland. Its surfaces, movement, sound and tactile feel are examined together before the work leaves the atelier.
MATERIALS
Each commission has its own material palette. Platinum, 18-carat gold, diamonds and other precious stones may be selected for their visual, tactile or personal significance. A stone may be chosen for its provenance, colour or connection to the commissioner. An engraving may remain private or become a defining part of the exterior. Materials are chosen only after the character and purpose of the commission have been understood.
THE COMMISSIONER’S MARK
The smallest details can carry the greatest personal meaning. A date, a symbol, a particular stone or a discreet engraving may become part of the finished Soundlocket®, visible to others or known only to its owner.
A PRIVATE COMMISSION
A Private Commission is created through close dialogue between the commissioner, Soundlocket® and the specialists entrusted with its making. The process takes time. Its duration and possibilities depend on the materials, design and craftsmanship required for the individual work.
