Launching Soundlocket® Production
Between 2023 and 2025, Soundlocket carried out a development project focused on establishing and advancing its production capabilities. The objective was to move from the craft-based production of individual pieces towards controlled, repeatable small-series manufacturing and to establish the capabilities required to launch production in Joensuu, Finland.
Project Objectives
Soundlocket is a high-quality product designed and made in Finland. Its assembly is based on specialised craftsmanship and exceptional precision.
The project focused on developing the product’s components, manufacturing methods and assembly process so that Soundlockets can be produced consistently and reliably in small series.
The objective was to ensure that the mechanical and electronic components are suitable for small-series production and that manufacturing capacity can be increased in a controlled manner without compromising the product’s high quality standards.
Activities Carried Out During the Project
The project consisted of two principal work packages: production planning, and production testing and quality assurance.
Production planning included:
- designing component manufacturing methods and production processes
- identifying suitable component manufacturers and production partners
- preparing production drawings, manufacturing instructions and quality requirements
- designing the Soundlocket assembly process
- developing manufacturing and assembly methods and specialised tools
- adapting components for repeatable small-series production
- defining materials, components, packaging methods and production tracking procedures
- preparing the production plan and related documentation.
Production testing and quality assurance included:
- testing the planned manufacturing and assembly methods
- producing pre-pilot and pilot devices
- resolving manufacturability issues identified during practical testing
- testing and improving finishing methods
- evaluating the product’s functionality and reliability
- conducting environmental and conformity testing
- preparing documentation supporting product certification
- assessing intellectual property rights related to the product and its manufacturing methods.
Project Results
During the project, Soundlocket’s production process, component manufacturability and assembly methods were developed and tested. Changes were made to improve manufacturability, functionality, quality and production consistency.
Production instructions, process descriptions and quality requirements were prepared. The network of specialised component manufacturers and production partners was also strengthened.
The project improved Soundlocket’s ability to manufacture, assemble, inspect and test its products in controlled small series. It established a stronger foundation for future international growth while preserving the Finnish precision, specialised craftsmanship and rigorous quality standards that define Soundlocket.
