SOUNDLOCKET® PURE

For Soundlocket®, that form is Pure. Its proportions are intentional. Its expression understated. Its purpose unchanged. Pure has remained true to its original design because timelessness is never achieved by constant change. It is achieved by clarity.

Nearly a decade in development. Approximately one hundred individual components. Thousands stages of making, assembly and finishing. Annual production capacity is intentionally limited to approximately 30–50 Soundlockets. Each one is individually numbered.

Beneath the quiet exterior lies Mecheart, the compact mechatronic architecture developed specifically for Soundlocket®.

Winding the crown by hand generates the energy required to record and reproduce sound. The principle of converting mechanical movement into electrical energy is familiar from much larger systems. The challenge was to realise it at an exceptionally small scale with the precision, reliability and simplicity required of Soundlocket®. The complexity remains inside. The experience remains effortless.

A familiar principle, realised at an unfamiliar scale.

Every Soundlocket® is assembled and individually finished by a watchmaker in Finland. With the exception of its electronic components, every component is handled and finished by hand. Surfaces, movement, sound and tactile feel are considered together before the completed Soundlocket® is individually tested. Around four hundred stages separate the individual components from the finished piece.

Wind the crown by hand to generate the energy required to operate Soundlocket®. Record up to sixty seconds of sound. Listen whenever you choose. The recording may be replaced until Soundlocket® is permanently encapsulated for its final owner. From that moment, the sound becomes part of the object and can no longer be replaced. No battery. No charging. No app. No external connection.
